Targets the statistically strongest save in the game. For example, compare Destructive Wave to Synaptic Static.ĭestructive Wave: Average 35 damage + prone. The fighter goes next and now has advantage on people on the ground. Bard unleashes the big bad boy of damage and knocks some fools prone. Bard and fighter are getting harassed by enemies. But the killing blow, is anyone who fails the save is now prone. You choose the enemies within 30 feet that are affected. So why does destructive wave gain my love over these other spells that do more damage? 2 reasons. Conjure Volley may be the best at wiping out large areas of enemies as it effects a 40 foot radius 20 foot high cylinder. But I'll get to why destructive wave is better in a second. Cone of Cold can potentially hit a larger area but average damage is higher. Cloudkill can be an amazing spell, but it can also not do any damage with a druid on the other side. 10d6 is the same as a 5th level fireball.
